Using MetaStock Data with ANNI
Here are 3 easy steps on how to get
ANNI to use MetaStock data
-
Versions Before 3.16.5
Go into the Data Retrieval configuration view and select
Locate or Decide for the Default Acquisition
option and then click Apply

Note: Locate will always bring up a "Browse for File" dialog box
when you finish creating an ANNI file from which
you will navigate and select your data file. Decide brings up a message box
that provides a user one last chance as to whether they want to download a
data file as normal or locate one (or cancel).
Versions 3.16.5 and After
When creating a new file, click on the "Data Parameters" view and select
"Custom Data (Browse for Data File on Completion)" option.

-
Begin to create a file as normal. I will skip showing snapshots of all
the setup wizard screens since that is irrelevant to this.
Note: If you do not put in a matched symbol
though (to what the
master index has), ANNI will automatically pull up the following dialog at
which point you will easily be able to select the correct data file.
Actually you will see this several times if you don't put up a matched
symbol (and ANNI will force the symbol to change to it's associated data
file as well when all is done). This is because all data file labels
can change with MetaStock which means whenever ANNI loads a data file it
must first cross reference it to the master file by using the symbol and, if
necessary, the data interval information. If a match is not found, ANNI will
not load the data file (which is why it force corrects the symbol after this
process - which also prevents this dialog from popping up again assuming a
valid cross reference can still be achieved).

-
OK...so now we've created a file and clicked finish. Up will pop the
"Browse for File" dialog box. At this point you must change the "Files of
type:" option (located at the bottom of the dialog) to MetaStock data files
so you can then select a data file

Also note that you can change the "Files of type:" to "All files" and select
the index file itself as follows:

This method is generally the best since at some point or another ANNI is
going to locate the master index and cross reference it back to a data file
anyway.
And that is all there is to it. You can also reset a data
file association by going to the Basic Information view and browse, as shown
above, to the new data file. If there are still problems simply request
assistance using ANNI's built in support request in the help menu.
